WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY STATES ITS POSITION

ON CLONING IN HUMAN REPRODUCTION

After considering the report of the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) on human cloning, biomedical technology and WHO's role in standard-setting, as well as the statements made by Member States, the Fiftieth World Health Assembly, meeting in Geneva from 5 to 14 May 1997, has adopted a resolution affirming that the use of cloning for the replication of human individuals is ethically unacceptable and contrary to human integrity and morality.
